Well, the summer session is about to end...one more week!
I am busy with my research paper for my English class...I am writing on the "Real ID Act". If you are like me, and had never heard of this, I encourage you to look it up.
Congress has passed into law a standard form for driver's licenses and state issued ID's. In the next few years, TX will start issuing these upon request. So far, they are not required...unless you want to get on an airplane, enter any federal building, or nuclear power plant. Now, I know most of you are like me, and tour nuclear plants as often as you can...but travel by plane is the biggest issue that will affect us.

I miss my daily contact with so many of you! Between classes and homework, there is just not time in the day, especially since sometimes homework has me up until midnight...I am definitely too old for THAT!

I have a two week break coming soon! That will be nice...

Hugs to you all!

July 10th

Can you believe it? It has been 10-years since I married John.
Wow...10-years...it does not feel like 10 years. Most days it seems as if time flew by. Looking at our life over these past 10 years there have been a lot of great memories and a lot of difficult times. After all, raising teenagers is enough to make a day feel like a week!
Looking back, I couldn't imagine my life with anyone else. John is truly an amazing person. He has been an incredible husband, despite the fact that he didn't get me so much as a card for our big day, yes, it's true...not even a card.
Anyone who knows me can tell you, these last 10 years have not been easy. Most of it has been spent dealing with difficult children, dealing with my own infertility issues, and dealing with parents who are not such good parents. John has been as supportive as he could, but having had children he can't relate to the infertility part, being the father of the difficult children he was many times "caught in the middle", and witnessing the short comings of my parents I think has helped him to find a happy medium on the two earlier mentioned matters.
I know I am not an easy person to get a long with...but then again, he is not so simple himself.

When it is all said and done, at the end of the day (even after he failed to commemorate our big day with a token of his love) he is my special man. I love him for the man that he is, I love him for the father he is, and I love him for loving me the way he does.

My 1st day of school...

Well, here it is...my 1st day of school.
I started the day off with a big bowl of Trix...took a bath and went to the closet and picked out my best Garanimal's outfit...put on my Stride Rite Mary Jane's...put my hair in pigtails...and off to school I went.

Okay - seriously. It was fun. I really like both of my teachers. My Math teacher is new to Houston Community College - she normally teaches at Prairie View and will return teaching there in the fall. She is a few years younger than I and is very laid back and attentive to her class. There are only 5 of us so far...but that could change tomorrow. I have not learned much about my classmates - only that most of them are wanting to go into the medical field. A potential nurse, a future dentist, and a future MD. There is one gentleman in my class who is studying here from West Africa. He has a wife and two young sons back home in Africa - I can imagine he must miss them very much. I enjoyed talking to him today and look forward to learning about his culture. Our ages range from 18 - 35 (guess who is the oldest...and it's not the teacher) so we should learn from not only our teacher, but from each other as well.

My English teacher is young as well; seems very straight forward, but willing to help you learn. She has a few rules on what she expects from her students; punctuality, no cell phones, etc. This should not be too difficult for me - I am not addicted to my cell like many of my young classmates and my Math class is prior to English so I'm only a few feet away. I like her attitude towards learning. She seems that she will be tough, but in a way that will make her students challenge themselves and their writing.

Well, I have some reading to do...

Ciao!

Getting prepared...

Well, today is the 4th of July and classes are due to begin in 3 days...I just realized that I need school supplies!
I picked up my books yesterday morning. Seriously - what is so spectacular about these things that they cost so much? I also ordered myself a laptop. That was fun. It is not due to arrive until the end of the month, but I think it will be a great tool for me when we are at Grandma's and I need to study or write a paper or what ever else my professor expects me to do.
I've decided to stay home from Grandma's this weekend so I can crack open these books and get an idea of what they will be teaching me. I'm taking both Math and English over this 5 week summer session so let's hope that my brain is ready to function like a students.

Here's to leaning on God for support! May He hold my hand through this adventure that I am about to embark.

Day 1

Well, I have just returned from a long weekend at my Grandmother's farm and it has hit me...for the first time since I was 16, I am unemployed. Yes, I've been between jobs before, but not for more than a few days. This is "permanent", at least for a while.
While I am very excited about not having to wake to an alarm clock in the morning, I am starting to feel a bit anxious about my decision. After all, I'm almost 36 and I going to college...for the 1st time! It's not like I am returning, taking a few classes to complete my degree...I'm just beginning!
I am very lucky that my husband is so supportive. The other day he told me, "Take your time, so what if it takes you 6 or 7 years to finish?" I had to laugh at the thought... Here I am wanting to go full speed ahead - take 12 - 15 hours a semester so I can wrap it all up in 3 years. You can tell who is the laid back one in this relationship.
Needless to say - there are a lot of very special folks in my life who I feel helped me to make this choice. You are friends and co-workers (oops - former co-workers) who have prayed for me, encouraged me, and even just listened when I had my doubts.
Well, here's to you! God bless you for having the faith in me! I truly feel that God has opened this door for me so here's to me running in!
